I fell in love with the Serena & Lily Poetto Vase as soon as I saw it, but I couldn’t justify the $150 price tag, especially for something I thought I could recreate. This DIY dipped vase was super easy and cost less than $20 to make!
Materials

- Any glass vessel – I couldn’t find a short, squat vase I liked so chose this cookie jar; I would have preferred one with more of a neck, but this jar was only $9!
- Spray Paint + Primer – the paint+primer in one is super convenient (I’ve linked my exact color, finish, and brand)
- Painter’s tape
- Plastic bag
- Sharpie
- Tape measure
- Rubber gloves (optional)
How To

First, decide how far up you want the dip to go. My dip is about 2.75 inches and I made tiny dots with the Sharpie all the way around. Tape around the vase using your dots as a guide.

Tape a plastic grocery bag around the top. Make sure your new tape pieces don’t go past your original tape line. Stuff the plastic bag inside and flip the vase upside down.

Time to paint! I used a paint + primer in one but you’ll want to prime beforehand if your spray paint doesn’t include the primer. The key is to apply several thin coats; I was a little heavy-handed on some of my coats and have some drips, but thankfully they aren’t too noticeable. Wait about a minute between coats.

Slowly remove the tape before the paint dries completely. I waited about a minute after my last coat to remove the tape, and let it dry for 24 hours before I put flowers in it. Since the opening is fairly wide, I made a grid over the top with Scotch tape to help keep the flowers upright.

And that’s it! I love how this DIY dipped vase turned out. Super simple but completely changes the look of the vase, and for a fraction of the price of a similar designer piece!
